Open Lid Piano Studio is a small, but growing, piano teaching studio in Koreatown, Los Angeles currently run solely by Mr. Corona. Efforts are being make to expand teaching services in the community with 1, or possibly 2, piano teachers who would love to operate in an encouraging and progressive environment for themselves, students and parents.
Open Lid wants to build a respected presence in the community and consistently keep growing. Staying up-to-date with current teaching approaches while keeping a warm, inviting tone to students and parents is important. Pianists who believe that every person needs a chance to reap the rewards of music education are encouraged to apply. Though starting with a small number of hours and students, there is the potential for a teacher to have a full roster of students with Open Lid Piano Studio.
Hold (or be actively working towards) a Bachelors degree in Piano Performance/Pedagogy (or closely related)
Membership in MTAC and MTNA (MTAC "Student Membership" in the case of those who have not completed a Bachelor's degree but are pursuing such)
For interview, play short, advanced piano pieces (or excerpts)
Start beginners of any age
Take any level of transfer students
Teach and develop lessons around mastering classical advanced repertoire, jazz, improvisation, composition, theory using different approaches
Comfortably use technology in teaching (cloud services, YouTube, mobile productivity and educational apps, laptops, iPads, digital pianos, etc.)
Encourage parents and students to participate in Certificate of Merit, recitals, competitions, etc.
Prepare students for and attend Certificate of Merit evaluations, recitals, competitions
Willingness to understand and work with the Open Lid approach and philosophy of positively interacting with parents and students
Must work with Square ecosystem for payroll
Proactive communication skills
Reliability to be regular with students
Work to give parents and students a supportive and positive experience
Adaptability to work with many types of people and situations
Hiring Timeline & Scheduling:
Two months is currently being allowed for the application period (January and February). Hoping to start this position in early March but finding the right candidate is the highest priority
Every effort would be made to begin the new teacher with a few new students all in one afternoon
The first days to begin filling would begin with Tuesday, Thursday, or Friday (mostly likely just starting with one day)
The schedule for each day would be in the later afternoons (after-school hours)
Start at $20-25/hour (depending on experience) with ability to increase after a probation and beyond
Established teaching space for each teacher
Free, easy parking
Comfortable teaching space with: good pianos, Wi-fi, air-conditioning, refrigerator, coffee/tea, clean teacher restrooms
Medical benefits are not currently included with this position (but are being considered to hopefully offer down the road)
